Celia started working in dentistry over thirty years ago. In 1976 she received her Dental assisting Certification through Mohawk & Niagara College. She spent many years "chairside" and is well versed in all aspects of clinical dentistry with 20 years experience in general and specialty practices.
She has studied with some of the leading practice management leaders in the dental field here in Canada and the US and is involved in helping our patients with understanding their treatment choices in today’s quickly advancing dental technology.
When she is not working Celia enjoys spending time with her family and friends and loves to read and travel.
Ute is the Dental Assistant in the Practice. She has been here for three years. In that time she has proven herself to be an invaluable asset to the Practice and Dr Rusu. Ute received her training in Germany, in 1978. She worked in Germany for four years before coming to Canada. Since then Ute has worked for a few dentists, gaining valuable knowledge along the way.
Ute's skills as an assistant are exceptional. She often knows what the dentist needs, before the dentist does. That is due to a keen sense of awareness. Ute's warm smile will greet you when you are visiting with the dentist. She will be with you from the start of your appointment till the end. If you need someone to hold your hand, she will be there. Compassion and understanding are two of Ute's strongest qualities.
In her free time Ute has 3 grown children, 2 dogs and her loving husband to keep her busy. If she isn't with her family she is in the backyard reading a book or tending to her beautiful gardens.
Kelly has been an active part of dentistry now for over 20 years. She joined the Village Dental Center in 2007 and has become a valuable team player and asset ever since.
Graduating with honors from the Canadian Academy of Dental Hygiene in 2006, she received the award for "Outstanding Achievement in Preventive Dental Hygiene". Her passion in preventive dentistry and oral health has continued throughout our practice and has had a positive reflection on continuing care appointments.
Continuing education is one of her key focuses throughout the year. This provides the patient with the most "up to date" current information and latest treatment plan options to improve their oral health and well being. Educating her patients with positive re-enforcement and a "hands on approach" is her goal. This helps them to strive for the best home care possible.
Her broad range of knowledge began as a Certified Dental Assistant Level II and continued on when she became a Registered Dental Hygienist. Her passions include Health and fitness, traveling and leading an active lifestyle with her two children.
Valerie has been with the Village Dental Centre since 2004. She has had a long career in dentistry, beginning in 1989 Her past experiences includes being a receptionist, dental assistant and for a brief time, an office manager. In 1992 she entered the Dental Hygiene program at Canadore College in North Bay. She graduated in the Top of her class. Since then, Valerie consistently does more continuing education then the mandated 25 hours a year, that the College of Dental Hygienists requires.
Val's commitment to Dental Hygiene is evident in her other pursuits outside the office. She has been on the Board of Directors for the Ontario Dental Hygienists Association from 2006-2009. In 2008 she began an Independent Mobile Dental Hygiene practice. With this Mobile Unit, she takes dental hygiene to people who can't easily access a traditional dental office. She specializes in Seniors care. As a result of this exposure, she recently undertook a research study in 2010 ( funded by the College of Dental Hygiensts). The study focused on how to improve oral care in Long Term Care facilities.
It is clearly evident that Val is dedicated to her profession.
With all that Val has learned and experienced in the field of dentistry, she has a wealth of information that she utilizes at each dental hygiene appointment. So feel free to ask questions about your oral health. Everything from toothpaste, periodontal disease, cavities, braces, to cosmetic enhancement and so much more. If she doesn't know the answer, she will find out or direct you to the specialist that does. Education is the key to oral health. It is Val's goal to help you get there.
Outside of dentistry, Val's passions are travel, Zumba and her family.
In the time Val and Kelly have been at The Village Dental Centre, they have implemented successful oral hygiene programs. They are continually, searching for the newest, latest information and products that can be used to enhance each of their clients individual needs.
Fatima, our newest member to the office, brings with her an extensive background in dentistry.
In 1984, Fatima graduated from Career Canada College. She received a diploma in Dental Assisting. With this, she pursued a career as a dental assistant for several years. She gained experience from several dentists over the years, culminating in a wealth of knowledge.
As Fatima is exceptional at multi tasking, her job description soon took on other duties and she learned the skills of a receptionist. Over the years, Fatima has found reception to be her niche. Once you meet her you will understand why. Her sense of humour and organizational skills make her the perfect person to greet and coordinate your visits to the office.
Fatima regularly joins all the staff at continuing education courses. This helps her maintain the most up to date knowledge from a clinical and business standpoint.
Outside the office, Fatima reads! And reads! And reads! Ask her for a book review. She is certain to have read it! When she's not reading she is cooking or at the movies or spoiling her grandchildren.
